Boston Fenway Victory Gardens 28th October 2012
Five birders, from experienced to beginners, joined the leader to explore Boston Fenway’s Victory Gardens from 8.30 to 11 am. Two of the participants took the T into Boston. The morning was cloudy, with the wind picking up and the temperature dropping during the morning – the start of Hurricane Sandy. Unlike last year, the gardens were dry, so boots were not necessary. Birds were plentiful, but nothing really exceptional this year. One potentially interesting warbler was seen towards the end of the morning, but only fleeting looks were had and there was disagreement between the experts as to what it was, Common Yellowthroat, Nashville Warbler? Twenty-five species were seen in the two and a half hours, but apart from the birds there was plenty of interest to see in the very varied individual gardens.
