Wompatuck State Park, Thursday May 17, 6:30 a.m.

Six birders roamed the paths of Wompatuck looking for the next great bird. Temperatures were in the mid-50's and there was a wind chill making conditions a bit nippy. With the leaves out so fully, we had to work at getting visuals on most of the birds, and the Cerulean Warbler was deep enough in the woods that only one person got on it just as it flew away. There were a couple of mystery birds that no one saw long enough to positively ID. North Shore Century Run May 5th - 05/05/2012

Twelve people attended the annual South Shore Bird Club's North Shore Century Run.

This traditional trip and route encompasses the areas of 
Crooked Pond, Boxford
Lynnfield Marsh,
Lynnfield,
Lynn,
Nahant,
Rowley,
Newburyport,
Plum Island,
West Newburyport

This year the trip saw or heard 133 species, not bad for the first week in May.

Warblers made a better than normal showing for the trip including:

7-9  Blackburnian Warblers in various Nahant sites and at least one in Boxford

6-8 Nashville Warblers in the same locations.

There was also a good showing of expected Yellow- rumpled Warblers, Black-throated Green,Northern Waterthrush. 

Also seen were Black-throated Blue, Palm, Black and White, Yellow, Common Yellowthroat and Louisiana Waterthrush, Northern Parula, Blue- winged, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Prairie, Pine and American Redstart.

The trade off was that's some ducks were missed.

The best non bird sighting was of a Luna Moth at McDonalds.

During this trip, no attempt is made to count the actual number of individuals seen, just the number of species.
